Promotion and Effective Implementation of Hindi as an Official Language
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Chandigarh Region, is committed to the effective implementation of the Government of India’s Official Language Policy and the promotion of Hindi. As an official language, Hindi not only ensures simplicity, ease, and effectiveness in administrative operations but also plays a vital role in bridging the nation’s linguistic and cultural diversity.
Across the Kendriya Vidyalayas and the Regional Office within this region, the use of Hindi is encouraged in accordance with constitutional provisions, the Official Language Act, the Official Language Rules, and the guidelines issued by the Government of India from time to time.
Key Activities for the Implementation of the Official Language
- Use of Hindi in Official Work
The use of Hindi is encouraged—in compliance with established rules—for official correspondence, noting, drafting, issuing orders, notices, reports, and other administrative tasks. The objective is to make official operations more accessible and effective, in alignment with the Official Language Policy.
- Official Language Workshops and Training
Workshops, training programs, and orientation sessions are organized to encourage officers and staff to conduct official work in Hindi. These initiatives aim to strengthen skills in noting, drafting, and the use of administrative terminology in Hindi.
- Hindi Fortnight (Hindi Pakhwada) and Hindi Diwas
Awareness and respect for Hindi are fostered through the celebration of ‘Hindi Diwas’ on September 14th each year, along with a ‘Hindi Fortnight’ (Hindi Pakhwada) held during a designated period. On these occasions, activities such as essay writing, poetry recitation, speeches, quizzes, calligraphy, and other literary events are organized.
- Promotion of Hindi in Schools
In Kendriya Vidyalayas, activities such as Hindi debates, poetry recitation, story writing, speeches, drama, and creative writing are encouraged to develop students’ linguistic proficiency, expressive skills, and interest in literature. These activities help cultivate both an interest in the Hindi language and self-confidence among the students. 5. Official Language Inspection and Review
The implementation of the Official Language Policy is reviewed in accordance with established guidelines. Emphasis is placed on taking necessary corrective measures by monitoring the status of Hindi usage in offices and schools, examining relevant records, and assessing progress toward set targets.
- Official Language Implementation Committee
Through Official Language Implementation Committees at the respective levels, progress in the use of Hindi is reviewed, action plans are formulated, and the necessary coordination is ensured for the effective execution of activities related to the Official Language.
- Digital and E-Office Operations in Hindi
The use of Hindi is encouraged through digital platforms, e-office systems, and available technical resources. This facilitates the use of Hindi in administrative tasks and helps expand its application as an official language.
