After shifting from Faridabad, the Regional Office, Chandigarh, started functioning from a rented building in Sector 34, Chandigarh, on 16.07.1981, with Shri R.P. Vashishtha as its first Assistant Commissioner.
Due to a shortage of accommodation, the Regional Office was subsequently shifted to a rented building in Sector 20, Chandigarh. In 1999, the Regional Office was shifted to the building of KV OCF, Sector 29, Chandigarh, where it continued to function until 13.05.2003.
The present building of KVS (RO) was inaugurated on 14.05.2003 by the then Commissioner, KVS, Shri H.M. Caire, IAS. It is a beautiful four-storey building situated on Dakshin Marg, near Tribune Chowk, Chandigarh. The building has adequate infrastructure, housing the Administrative Branch on the Ground Floor, the Accounts Branch on the First Floor, and the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner on the Second Floor. The Top Floor houses a well-equipped Conference Hall, Library, and Guest Room.
The building is suitably equipped with a generator, air-conditioning facilities, and computers.
